Lamborghini Super Trofeo

Lamborghini is going racing with its own Lambo-only race series. To help kick start some interest, its come up with the track-only Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo based on the Gallardo LP560-4. Lamborghini will make a run of 30 of these cars so that the ultra-rich of the world can settle any issues (like why a flat tax is better or who finished the Grey Poupon) out on the track.

Lamborghini says it will have a factory-backed for the racer series with celebrity guest drivers. Regardless of who runs these cars, its low production numbers and high horsepower will likely make these cars eventually end up in the hands of collectors. The Gallardo Super Trofeo’s 5.2-liter V10 makes 570 horsepower, which is up 18 hp from the LP560-4.

Racecars are traditionally rear-wheel drive. That’s why Audi ditched the all-wheel drive system for back motion only on the R8 GT3. So will the Gallardo Super Trofeo be able to handle on the track? We’ll be the judge of that (Lamborghini please let us be the judge of that.)

Aston Martin Rapide official rendering

Usually it’s the automotive press who makes the renderings of future cars, but this time Aston Martin made a rendering for the press. According to CAR Magazine, Aston dropped off an early Christmas gift and gave them its rendering of what the production Rapide will look like.

There isn’t much of a difference from the concept. Minor things have changed such as the three-piece lower grille is now solid, the door mirrors are bigger, and there is a more pronounced crease for the doorline.

Aston’s sedan should be powered by a 6.0-liter 500 hp V12. CAR is reporting that the Rapide should cost between £130,000-£150,000 (about $200,000-$230,000 at direct current rates) when it arrives in about a year. This would be a welcomed price compared to the rumors that Aston Martin is trying to go upmarket and make the Rapide cost as much as $400,000.

Heffner Performance and Camilo Pardo Special Edition Ford GT

We already knew that Heffner Performance made a turbocharging kit for the Ford GT, so why are we showing this car? Well, because this time he teamed up with artist Camilo Pardo, and we are always looking for an excuse to show a 200+ mph car. Heffner’s twin-turbo kit for the Ford GT takes the car’s stock 550 hp from the V8 and boosts it to 900 hp. This over sixty percent improvement gives the car a 0 to 200 mph in under 19 seconds and can hit over 150 mph in quarter mile runs.

Pardo’s contribution is a little more subtile. He’s responsible for items like the "gumball" racing graphics, black BBS wheels and removal of the rear bumper. There is only one of this specific car, and its already sold. But this isn’t the first time Heffner and Pardo teamed up on a twin-turbo Ford GT. So if you really like this car, and you have plenty of cash lying around, they may be motivated to do something similar again.

2010 Hurst Mustang Pace Car

2010 Hurst Mustang Pace Car

Top Speed announced earlier this month that the 2010 Hurst Mustang Pace Car would make it just in time to lead the field of pupose built Ford Mustang FR500S race cars at the final race of Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Series season at the Miller Motor Sports Park in Salt Lake City, Utah. After serving out its duties on the track, the 2010 Hurst Mustang is going to make its way to Las Vegas at the beginning of November for the world’s greatest aftermarket car show, SEMA, and following its appearance at the south end of the Strip, the Hurst modified Mustang will be auctioned off in January.

The special edition BFGoodrich/Hurst Mustang pace car has been beefed up with a Roush supercharger that breathes in through a high flow K&N air filter and breathes out though an unrestricted Magnaflow stainless steel exhaust system that work together to increase the pony car’s output to 435 HP and 400 lb-ft of torque. The 2010 Mustang Peace Car is dressed up with features a unique white and gold paint job and sits on 20-inch Hurst polished forged aluminum wheels wrapped in a set of the obligatory BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW tires, because after all you have to represent your sponsors.

It is nice to finally see the 2010 Hurst Mustang Pace Car in the flesh, the car continues the sifter company’s dedication to creating truly impressive muscle cars wearing the traditional white and gold livery. The new Hurst Mustang is just another great example of those wild creations that we have come to love ever since the 1960s

Jaguar XKR by Startech

If there was ever any doubt about the Jaguar XK’s status as a sports car the tuners STARTECH have a new customization program for both the naturally aspirated XK and boosted XKR that will put any of those negative notions to rest. The modification specialists have integrated a set of LED driving lights into the front bumper as well as a few carbon fiber bits to the exterior and a bamboo wood interior. The STARTECH feline is ready to pounce, lowered by over an inch and hunched down on a set of three piece 21 inch Monostar J Diamond Edition wheels.

Press release after the jump.

Press release

Exclusive, innovative and individual: These three attributes best describe the STARTECH accessories program for the latest Jaguar XK and XKR models, which is available for coupes and convertibles. A customized XK Coupe that celebrates its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show IAA 2009 in Frankfurt/Main gives a good first look at the complete product lineup for the British automobiles.

Adding sporty emphasis to the elegant lines of the two-door with subtle components was a challenge the STARTECH styling team mastered with great success. The team developed spoiler flaps that attach to both sides of the production front apron. They upgrade the car’s appearance and reduce lift on the front axle.

All STARTECH aerodynamic-enhancement components are made from carbon fiber. To make these components not only ultra-light but also extremely strong STARTECH uses the same ‘Prepreg’ production process in an autoclave used in motor racing and aerospace engineering.

The face of the Jaguar is further upgraded with daytime running lights. Using precise-fit design elements these lights are beautifully integrated into the stylized air vents on both sides of the bumper. The STARTECH carbon-fiber rear molding serves as the perfect backdrop for the two tailpipes of the exhaust system and gives the rear of the Jaguar even more character.

The exclusive STARTECH looks are further characterized by STARTECH forged wheels customtailored for the XK models. The three-piece Monostar J Diamond Edition wheels intersperse polished surfaces with brushed-look sections and are miles apart from the rest. The same is true for the wheel sizes, which were selected specifically for the sportiest Jaguar model. The front wheel houses are filled to the max by size 9Jx21 wheels with tires in size 255/30 ZR 21. In the rear tires in size 295/25 ZR 21 mounted on size 10.5Jx21 wheels strive to provide maximum traction.

STARTECH sport springs are specially calibrated to these tire/wheel combinations. They lower the ride height of both body styles by some 40 millimeters (1.6 inches).

Exclusive interiors are a particular STARTECH specialty. The interior designers transformed trends from exclusive high-end living into the XK without overpowering the sports car’s British character. The company upholstery shop has created a fully leather interior made from the finest, especially soft brandy-colored leather. A new combination of contrasting cords and double seams using an especially thick thread creates an entirely new and yet very English ambiance in the cockpit. The STARTECH interior program also offers countless other color combinations in leather and Alcantara. More than 100 different colors are always in stock, special requests such a leather color that matches a favorite lipstick or other item can also be fulfilled.

New bamboo wood trim elements replace the precious-wood and aluminum trim available from the factory. The wood color is specially matched to the brandy-colored leather. A special bleaching and staining process makes it possible to match the leather color exactly. This STARTECH innovationalso gives customers a choice of open-pore, matte or high-gloss surface finishes. Genuine carbonfiber trim sets with different structures and colors are yet another option for customizing the interior.

4.

Further exclusive ideas for the interior are scuff plates with illuminated STARTECH logo and highquality floor mats bordered with color-coordinated leather.

AVUS Batmobile Nissan GT-R

AVUS Batmobile Nissan GT-R

The German tuners at Avus Performance are trying their hand at modifying a Japanese super car, the Nissan GT-R. Right from the get go, the boys at Avus knew that their GT-R was going to be covered in the very stealth like matte black finish that would instantaneously set this particular example apart from more ordinary GT-R super cars. The tuners have left the chassis very close to the way it came from the factory, the only additions they made were a set of ride height adjustable coil overs and some slight wheel spacers to increase the super car’s track. It is hard to imagine that a simple monochromatic finish, combined with a set of glossy black painted wheels, dark tints and cleared out marker lights can completely transform the appearance of the GT-R without even changing up the car’s profile.

The dark exterior treatment is only the beginning of what AVUS has done with the GT-R. Under the hood, they have swapped out the factory engine computer for a modified unit that takes full advantage of the less restricted free flowing exhaust that has upped the GT-R’s maximum output from the factory rated 485 HP and 433 lb-ft of torque all the way up to an earth shattering 580 HP and 516 lb-ft of thrust.

With this kind of newfound power and stealth appearance, it is no wonder that the latest edition of Avus’s Black Edition GT-R has earned the nickname Batmobile. Batman would certainly be able to catch up to any of his arch nemesis in this hot rod GT-R and would easily be able to outrun Gotham City’s finest, now all the German modification specialists need to add are a few crime fighting features like a a grappling hook and oil slick to make the dark knight feel right at home behind the wheel of his newest toy.

2010 KTM X-Bow GT4

KTM X-Bow GT4

The Austrian based two wheeled off road racing specialists at KTM are making a play to become more competitive on the track with all four wheels gripping the tarmac when it unleashes the open air lightweight X-BOW GT4 race car into the category for the 2010 racing season. The new X-BOW GT4 has just finished its first round of on track action where the test session turned into an all out competition this past weekend at the 2009 British GT championship with driver Reinhard Kofler behind the wheel.

After sweeping the first three places in the final round of the GT4 European Cup at Nogaro, the sports car builder decided to upgrade the KTM X-BOW so that it could step out of the restricted Super Sport category and begin competing with the big boys, something that was shown when Mr. Kofler qualified just .45 seconds behind the larger and more powerful MTECH GT3 spec Ferrari F430 Scuderia. The X-BOW GT4 is powered by a 2.0 Liter TFSI four cylinder Audi engine and features a few improved aerodynamic pieces as well as a new cooling system to go along with the new chassis.

KTM’s U.K. manager, Jeff Lau said that "While we have enjoyed success in the Supersport class, it’s not been as popular as the British or European organizers had anticipated. KTM in Austria therefore took the decision to develop a full GT4-specification X-BOW for the 2010 season. The objective for KTM is to position X-Bow as the leading contender in British and European GT4 racing next year, while also being cost-effective," targeting entry level GT racing teams

Aston Martin finally bringing Vantage V12 to the US

Aston Martin finally bringing Vantage V12 to the US

Americans have long dreamed of the day when Aston Martin would begin to send over their beautiful super cars over to local shores. But for so long, the closest most Americans have come to seeing an Aston Martin is on those flimsy James Bond movies.

Well, according to our friends at Car and Driver, that may not hold true for very long.

Dr. Ulrich Bez, Aston Martin’s CEO, announced that Aston Martin will be coming to the US with no less than the Aston Martin V12 Vantage spearheading the excursion across the Atlantic.

If you recall, Aston Martin initially scoffed at plans of bringing the DB9, mainly because it feared that the ultra-fast – and ultra-expensive – super car would not be able to make enough sales to make it worth the trouble. But now that the auto industry has began to pick up again, Aston Martin decided to do an about-face, which is fantastic news for us super-car-loving Americans.

While there’s still no timetable as to when the Vantage would make its way to America, hearing it from the horse’s mouth that it’s is coming should be enough reason for us to thank the high heavens for answering our prayers.

Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS customization program

Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS customization program

The all new naturally aspirated Porsche 911 GT3 and even sharper GT3 RS have just received a few new lightweight components from the German sorts car builder’s Motorsport Division aimed at making some of the best purpose built Porsches even better. Like all of Porsche’s high performance components these new pieces have been track tested and not only give the GT3 an edge over the competition but they also give the cars a much sportier appearance.

The new program focuses on replacing the car’s standard parts with units made from lightweight materials: like carbon fiber side mirrors, a titanium tailpipe that turns blue when it is exposed to elevated exhaust temperatures, the rear deck lid and Gurney flap are made out of lightweight carbon fiber further reducing the 911’s curb weight and because carbon is much more rigid than the traditional plastic parts the Porsche engineers were able to enlarge the openings without worrying about the parts failing.

Last but not least, the Porsche Motorsport Division has come up with the next generation 19 inch GT3 wheel. The rollers are designed to attach to the car via a forged aluminum center locking wheel nut just like a real racing car. So if you are looking to take your GT3 to the next level, then consider adding a few of these high performance arts from Porsche.

2010 Infiniti EX35

Infiniti EX35

The Japanese luxury automaker Infiniti has just release details about the 2010 EX35 luxury crossover, and it is still selling for the same price as it did in 2009, but with a long list of available features, including standard leather appointed seating and Around View Monitor, as well as a coat hanger integrated into the back of the driver’s seat, advanced audio systems and a power folding 2nd row seat. The 2010 Infiniti EX35 will start from just $33,800 for the rear wheel drive version and go all the way up to $37,400 for the top of the line all wheel drive EX35 Journey.

Just like the previous model year, the 2010 EX35 is powered by a 3.5 Liter VQ35 V6 engine that produces a maximum of 297 HP and is mated to a 5 speed automatic transmission and is available the automaker’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system.

Some of the more attractive features of the EX35 are the new Bose Audi system and Around View Monitor Package that includes an Advanced Climate Control System (ACCS) with Plasmacluster air purification. The Navigation Package adds hands free Bluetooth Streaming Audio, XM NavWeather (XM subscription required, sold separately) and Zagat Restaurant Guide. The Navigation Package is offered at no additional charge when you choose the Bose and AVM Package.

Ferrari 458 Italia by ASI

Ferrari 458 Italia by ASI

Even though the Ferrari 458 Italia just finished introducing itself to the world at the Frankfurt Motor Show, that hasn’t stopped the Japanese design house ASI from coming up with a few modifications to the Pinninfarina penned design.

The first rendering opens up the 458’s nostrils with larger front bumper openings and a very racy set of gills just before the all new mid engine Ferrari’s front wheels, a set of sharp side skirts and a fixed rear wing paced atop the 570 HP V8’s deck lid to keep the car’s back end planted. The second speed inspired design is a bit more subtle, ditching the carbon fiber fender vents to create a much cleaner looking 458. One very interesting touch from ASI is the racing spec tow hook inside the front bumper, perhaps this a hint that the Japanese tuners intend on their 458s seeing some track time.

It is only a matter of time before we start to see more and more of these modified 458 renderings. However the real question is, when are we going to start to see some full scale examples. It would take a very dedicated tuning shop to make the hefty investment in a brand new Ferrari 458 Italia only to tear it apart and begin their own experimentation with the latest offering from Maranello.

RSR Jaguar XKR GT2 racecar

RSR Jaguar XKR GT2 racecar

The American Le Mans Series racing team RSR, headed up by long time Jaguar privateer racer Paul Gentilozzi has just finished working on the next generation XK-R racing car in time to compete this weekend at the 1,000 mile Petit Le Mans in Braselton, Georgia this weekend. The 2010 XKR GT2 racecar was designed as a joint effort between the American racing team RSR and Jaguar’s Advance Design Studio, which is headed by the automaker’s chief designer Ian Callum. The experience of the veteran racer and Jaguar’s main body man has resulted in over 1,100 man hours molding clay and laying carbon fiber to create a shape that is fast and manages to maintain the feel of the factory vehicle.

The race car began its life as a brand new Jaguar XK-R, and despite being a fully built race car maintains much of the original car’s aluminum body panels; like the roof, doors and deck lid. Intensive computational fluid dynamics analysis by the automaker’s aerodynamics department has led to some interesting body work, like the trailing GT style rear wing, redesigned front bumper and extremely wide front fenders. The new 2010 XKR GT2 racecar is a vehicle that both Gentilozzi and Jaguar feel will become one of the most competitive Jaguar racing cars to compete in one of the most competitive ALMS GT2 fields in a long time.

When the green flag drops at 11:15 AM on September 26, the hills surrounding Road Atlanta will roar with the sounds of fire breathing race cars, but there will also be a new voice in the crowd, the XKR GT2 car with a trio of seasoned racers behind the wheel; the American Scott Pruett, the Belgian Marc Goossen and RSR team owner Paul Gentilozzi. If anyone can handle pulling a double duty like this one, Gentilozzi can.

Myers Motors introduces the NMG2

Myers Motors introduces the NMG2

Let’s just put it out there: the Myers Motors NMG2 has taken the words ‘quirky’ and ’efficient’ to all-time levels.

We do have to give brownie points to Myers for their creativity and ingenuity. The two-seat, three-wheel model NMG2 integrates elements from cars and motorcycles thanks to those headlights, which, if you noticed, comes in threes: Two on either side and one on the center. Yes, the center.

Not only that, the car’s dimensions are such that the front resembles – apart from the center-mounted headlights, of course – a standard car while the back looks more like a performance bike.

In any case, Myers seems to have tremendous faith in their product, especially as far as eco-friendly efficiency is concerned; something all of us can agree with.

The vehicle runs on lithium-ion batteries and has a top speed of 75 mph with a 60-mile range. Myers has also hinted that a 100-mile model will eventually be offered for customers down the road. For now, the NMG2 is slated to hit production by the tail-end of 2010 and customers who are interested in buying one of these cars can do so for a little under $30,000.

Batmobile gone horribly wrong

Batmobile gone horribly wrong

For all you Batman-loving car nuts out there, we’re now telling you to turn away and not even bother to look at this.

But if you can’t resist, then we won’t blame you either.

This car is not the Batmobile. No. No. No.

What it is is a 2001 Chevrolet Camaro that has been face-lifted to make it look – at the very least – like the Dark Knight’s ride. While his expectations of what a Batmobile looks like differs greatly from the entire human population, we can’t help but appreciate the effort.

That is, until, we scoured the car and found a few minor mishaps said owner has done with his re-styling. First of all, he needs to work on his spelling as evidenced by the tag line ‘King of Gothem City’ emblazoned on right rear side of the car. Second of all, we understand the whole concept of posting stickers on the rear window, provided it doesn’t impede the driver’s vision when he checks out his rear-view mirror, but this guy decided that small stickers have no place in his ‘Batmobile’ so he went with a sticker that almost covers the entire rear window.

Audi shows off their Clean Diesel Technology

Audi shows off their Clean Diesel Technology

Just yesterday the forward thinking German automaker Audi took us to lunch in order to tell us a little more about the benefits of their new TDI clean diesel technology. Sure diesel powered vehicles benefit from an already impressive range due to the efficiency of a diesel engine, but there were always the negative stigmas associated with the less refined fossil fuel like horrible cold starts, black bumpers and enough clacking to drive any owner insane; instead the four ringed automaker has figured out how to drastically reconfigure the diesel engine to work with ultra low sulfur diesel and make it much more user friendly in hopes that U.S. consumers will catch the alternative fuel bug.

The model that Audi of America brought down to sunny South Florida to show off the next generation of their TDI clean diesel campaign was a 2009 3.0 Liter TDI Q7, although for 2010 the larger Audi SUV will go under the knife and emerge from the operating room with a fresh facelift, we can still see the benefits of a luxury diesel vehicle. Next year’s model will feature a redesigned grill, new headlamps, new taillights (both beaming with little LEDs), as well as a new set of oversized side mirrors and a new array of wheels measuring up to 21 inches in diameter. Inside the sportiest of Q7’s the dash is adorned with decorative wood inlays and countless chrome accents while the obligatory heated and cooled seats remain and there is even a hand stitched Alcantara headliner available. One piece of technology that Audi is quite proud of is the high end computer chip that drives their new 3G navigation system, the piece was lifted from very advanced gaming systems and allows the LCD display to offer the passengers: a true road view complete with every curve of every off ramp, a topographical style map and the most impressive being the 3D landmark based display; so if you are driving down Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C., the White House will show up on your navigation system.
